It's an intense week here in the Great Lakes Unity Region. Our 11-state coalition of Unity Ministries is holding its annual convention. I'm participating online. Still the "work" of business meetings, zoom sessions and virtual discussions mashed together with the "fun" of networking and renewing collegial bonds via screentime is demanding. Every session offers abundant opportunities to connect with colleagues, to learn, to pray and to grow....and it's a looonnng time to be glued to a laptop.
So last night, I opted to skip a session in favor of resting my weary eyes. At first, I felt a little guilty. Then a still, small voice gently counseled, "The Bible says God rested on the seventh day. It's okay for you to take a break, too."
Freed of the burden to dive back in, I met a friend for dinner, came home to watch an episode of "The Bear," and crashed by 9:00 p.m. I woke this morning feeling energized and excited about the rest of the week's work. It marks a subtle but significant shift from being grateful it was nearly over.
Rest is a spiritual practice, too. It's just as important as prayer, meditation and being of service if we're to enjoy balanced spiritual living.
God rested. So can we.
