The buyer for our property is Kensington School, a small chain of daycares owned by Chuck Marlas. We chose this offer above others as we believed it to be a good fit for our Hillside neighborhood, and that their work in caring for children sustains our legacy of being good neighbors.
Since the beginning of the process Mr. Marlas has remained flexible and committed to creating a site design that works for the neighborhood's needs. Kensington School has made changes in their site design to accommodate our neighbors as well as the City of Evanston, creating the best traffic flow possible for all parties.
The current issue we're working on resolving involves the easement on our property which gives our co-op neighbors access to their property. We are in the midst of negotiations with the co-op, and continue to affirm that this sale will be a win-win for all involved parties including UNS, Kensington School, the City of Evanston, and the co-op owners and residents. Under the current site plan the easement to the co-op will be relocated to a different part of the property. Our current negotiations include a financial incentive to the co-op for their cooperation with this change to their easement. The funding of this potential financial incentive will be split evenly between UNS and Kensington School, and will be paid out of our sale proceeds.
If this agreement goes through and the co-op accepts our financial offer our proceeds will be slightly lower than anticipated. Be assured that we, your Trustees, are very mindful of our responsibilities to steward Unity's resources. We hold this responsibility as a sacred trust, and understand our obligation to our congregation and all those whose generosity has blessed us with this wonderful asset.
We continue to seek Spirit's guidance and affirm the highest and best good for all!
Our Search for a Spiritual Home
The volunteers on the Site Selection Committee have been working diligently to vet potential locations for our next spiritual home. While still considering many locations, the Board has submitted a non-binding Letter Of Intent on one location, which should allow us to obtain necessary financial data needed to evaluate the affordability of that particular property. Meanwhile, the Site Selection Committee is continuing to visit and evaluate other properties as they become available.
